Hi, I'm Rachel, founder of More to Love, and I'm passionate about helping you learn to love, accept and appreciate your body.
Growing up, I was a happy-go-lucky and active kid with amazing family and friends to nurture me. But when I hit young adulthood, my body changed rapidly into something I didn't understand. And didn't want.
As I went through school, college and early adulthood, I dieted nearly constantly. While weight would come off, the "happiness" was short lived and it always found its way back. And then some.
This seemingly perpetual dance of weight loss and gain affected my happiness and confidence. Nothing was ever good enough. I felt disconnected from my body. I hid my true self behind sarcasm and baggy clothing because I figured who wants to hang with the fat girl?
But the truth was dieting never provided me the body or feeling I truly longed for. Dieting didn't allow me to be kind to myself. Focusing so hard on weighing less, I missed out on experiencing parts of my life, allowing weight to hold me back.
Fed up, I decided to turn the whole notion I had to "fix myself" on its head. I chose to quit restrictive dieting to focus on loving, accepting and caring for the body I DO have.
When I stopped trying to correct myself, I felt a greater sense of peace and kindness towards my body. Food wasn't the enemy anymore, it became an ally to my overall well-being. Fitness wasn't a way to torture my body, it turned into a fun way to move more in ways I actually liked. Shopping for clothing was no longer a dreaded and embarrassing chore, but a chance to express my own unique style and creativity.
WHEN MY BODY WAS NO LONGER A PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED, IT BECAME A VESSEL TO HELP LIVE MY LIFE MORE FULLY.
How did I do this? It was a process of unlearning useless ideas about beauty, health and happiness. It was also a gradual evolution of learning there was more to love about myself beyond appearances. When I shifted my focus from what I didn't have to what I did have, I saw how marvelous my body and true self are.
Today, my life is blessed because I count my blessings. My body is large, but so is the love and life I lead. I practice yoga regularly, I enjoy cooking healthy and fresh meals with my husband, I play with fashion and hair, and I hold my head up high with a smile as I walk into a room.
I BELIEVE ALL people, LARGE OR SMALL, HAVE THE RIGHT TO FEEL AT HOME IN THEIR OWN BODIES. YOU JUST NEED TO LEARN HOW. SO MY WORK HERE AT MORE TO LOVE IS DEVOTED TO INSPIRING AND TEACHING YOU HOW TO TO LOVE, ACCEPT AND APPRECIATE YOUR BODY.
This is why is created More to Love in 2013, to share the lessons I learned through my own journey to body acceptance and in my life coach and Kripalu yoga teacher training with you. More to Love now includes online and offline workshops, yoga classes, writing and speaking engagements as well as a robust online community of accepting, supportive women. I’ve helped thousands of women through my programs and now, I’d love to help you.
