A shift in energy

Rachel Estapa

Yikes! Has it really be over 5 months since I last wrote?  In my absence, I've been keeping very busy and have some exciting news to share. Over the course of the next year, I'll be training to become a professional coach through the Institute for Professional Excellence in Coaching [iPEC]. After thinking long and hard about what I want to do with my strengths and interests, coaching became a wonderful and natural avenue for me to cultivate professional skills and help others reach their potentials in a very organic and empowering way. Let me introduce you to Undercurrent Coaching. Huh? What does a coach do? Well, simply put - I'll be helping people get to where they want to go. I'll listen to what is blocking a person from their success and offer insights on how to break through it. I'll be raising people's awareness about themselves, how they interact with others, and how their perspective shapes just about everything in their life. I'll be a partner to those who want to make a shift in some area of their life, but aren't quite sure how or where to start. Undercurrent Coaching will be the new vehicle for me to help others and this blog will serve as a way to share what I'm learning.

The type of coaching that I'm training in is based upon an understanding of the first law of thermodynamics: Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change forms. ...Rachel, wtf are you talking about? Now, before I start losing readers and potentially friends, let me explain: Thanks to Mr. Einstein and his colleagues in the world of quantum mechanics, we have a working knowledge that all things are really just different forms of energy -- from the sun the sky, to the microwaves' that are cooking your frozen dinner, to the smile on your face -- all is an expression of energy. In terms of people's lives, there's the type of energy that can drag you down and the type that lifts you up. Feeling like the world is weighing on your shoulders, that you can't possibly get what you really want, or that everyone is out to get you -- well, that's the lower type of energy. When you feel accomplished, full of zest, like you can create whatever you want and know it'll be fantastic, that's higher energy and the stuff that enables people to really take charge of their lives. As a coach, I'll be helping people bump themselves a long the ladder of energy -- from the victim minded one of the lower, to more creative and purposeful higher energy.

So, are you like a Life Coach now? Actually, I'm not really sure what kind of coach I'll be yet -- there's a lot for me to learn and reflect upon before I decide what direction I want to head. But whatever I chose, it will focus heavily on personal development, integrating positive psychology and leadership, and will have a lot of fun built into it. I've always been drawn to personal development and how to lead a more holistic lifestyle. By holistic, I mean that your outside life reflects your inner values. It's balance among the major areas of life, across  financial to intimate/social relationships, from spirituality to fun & enjoyment and to what degree your career reflects your strengths, and how in tuned you are to health and well-being.

As I shift, so to will Undercurrent - but it will always live by its original intention of helping people become more aware and empowered regarding the quality of their life.  From time to time, I'll relay what I'm learning here on my blog. My focus now is education and practice, so my posts may be fewer than I'd like. And that's OK because at the end of this new adventure, Undercurrent and myself will be much stronger for it.

I'd also like to thank all those who have supported me in my rather interesting shift, and to all those who have given me positive feedback regarding Undercurrent and my ideas. You helped make the decision to move in this direction much easier. I'm grateful to those who believe in this type of work, of which will only grow as more people see the value in looking inward to create the outward. I hope that I've in some small way helped you be more confident to run after whatever it is that you're interested in, and to share your unique undercurrent with everyone you meet.

I leave you with one of my favorite lines from Rumi's poetry, of which I often recite when I'm on the brink of something new in my life.

Keep walking, though there's no place to get to. Don't try to see through the distances; that's not for human beings. Move within, but don't move the way fear makes you move.

Take care and talk with you soon!

Rachel
